WineRelease.com's January 15, 2003 Monthly Newsletter
Happy New Year from WineRelease.com!
I hope the holidays were fun and that 2003 started off with a bang! It did for me.
My friends Sheila and Jim invited me to a wine dinner at Del Dotto Vineyards, which they purchased at the Napa Valley Auction last year. Baseball greats Mark Grace and Steve Traxel joined us in the caves while Dave Del Dotto tasted us on his Cabernet, Merlot and Sangiovese (and blends thereof) from different barrels. He is a big fan of toast and barrel experimentation and we tried over 20 versions.
Our group then had a great lobster and steak dinner and more wines from around the world. A great time was had by all.
I have received numerous requests over the years to have a 'printer friendly' version of WineRelease.com, especially from retailers. So with this issue I'll finally be offereing .pdf files of WineRelease.com. I will email out the .pdf files the same day as this newsletter (15th of the month). If you would like to be added to this list and receive a .pdf file of this newsletter, shoot an email to PDF@WineRelease.com and put "PDF version" in the subject and I will send you .PDF versions of the past, present and next month's wine releases, suitable for posting.
January is my annual subscription drive. Send this newsletter to your wine friends so they can subscribe too.
And now, on to the show....

January's recommended winery mailing lists to join:
Larkin Wines
Sean Larkin produces Cabernet Franc, and his first vintage (1999) received 91 points by Robert Parker with the following review: "A sensational debut effort, Larkin's 1999 Cabernet Franc is extremely concentrated, full bodied, and youthful. A purple color is accompanied by a stunning perfume of pure crème de cassis, blueberry flowers, and high quality toasty French Oak. Rich and full as well as remarkably elegant and light on its feet with noticeable tannin, it will be at its finest between 2003-2016."

Sloan Wine
Seattle businessman Stuart Sloan purchased a 15-acre vineyard above Auberge de Soleil on the eastern hills in Rutherford, in the Napa Valley. David Abreu planted the rocky vineyard to the four Bordeaux varieties; Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Sloan anticipates 750 - 1,000 cases of wine with the first harvest, 2000, to be released in the Fall of 2003.

January's recommended web site to visit:
Mark Squires' Wine Bulletin Board
Mark Squires' Wine Bulletin Board
An active wine discussion site (now located on erobertparker.com) that delves deep into wine topics by fellow wine geeks. Although there is a lot of testosterone and winespeak, the site is a great place to get a feel of what is going on with the consumer side of wine. As an added bonus, Robert Parker and Pierre Rovani frequently drop by and post comments on various wine topics.
Till next month!
