WineRelease.com's June 15, 2009 Monthly Newsletter.
Greetings from WineRelease.com, now 1,349 winery listings strong!
WineRelease is now on Twitter. Add @WineRelease if you Twitter.
Wineries, if you aren't on Twitter, I recommend you start.
It is easy to do and would be great for us wine lovers to follow our favorite wineries. We want to know what restaurants are pouring your wine by the glass, what foods go well with your wines, when your wines are released, when they are shipping, harvest updates, what events you will be attending, news about your wines, close out sales... you get the picture.
Vintank released a whitepaper profiling social media companies impacting the wine industry and I recommend downloading their exhaustive report: here
If you are a winery and have a Twitter and/or Facebook account (or know winery Twitter/Facebook winery names), reply to this email and I will add to the WineRelease directory page (72 Winery Twitter URLs are there now) so our subscribers can follow.
Some good examples are Randall Graham of Bonny Doon Vineyard (http://twitter.com/RandallGrahm) and Rutherford Grove (http://twitter.com/RutherfordGrove)
Thanks to all who responded to WineRelease.com's Restaurant Wine Survey.
We were very pleased with the results and passionate feedback.
The next time we do a survey, and we plan to do many more, we will allow feedback for each question because you are a passionate bunch.
We started a blog to allow you to see each survey question/response and comment. Here is the link: http://WineRelease.blogspot.com/
I have been wanting to do the Restaurant wine survey for over a year because of question number 7 - "Currently when ordering wine in most restaurants, you initially taste and determine if the wine is acceptable.
If you don't think the wine is acceptable, the waiter/sommelier tastes the wine. Should the sommelier (or waiter) taste the wine initially?"
69% of you want to keep the current method of being the taster. I disagree. Hear me out on this.
I want the waiter/sommelier to taste the wine (a small 1/4 ounce) for 2 primary reasons;
- They have experience with the wine more than I do because they will have tasted the wine many times while working.
- They would be better at recommending wines on their list if they were constantly tasting the wines.
I still believe the customer should be the person who determines if the wine is flawed, but sometimes I am unsure and I would rather have he/she try first. Voice your opinion by clicking here.
And now, on to the show...
