The results from the July 2009 WineRelease Subscriber Survey on Wine Closures are here. This is the first survey, that I am aware, that asks the cork vs screw cap question by "ageable" vs "drink now" wine types, as well as consumer vs trade opinions. I included all the verbatims too. Thank you all for taking the survey and providing great responses. Spoiler alert: Natural cork wins for 'ageable', screw cap wins for 'drinkable now' wines. My monthly wine tasting group had our annual "Popeye's Fried Chicken and White Burgundy" tasting last Wednesday (although this year the host bought Louisiana Fried Chicken - I prefer Popeye's for White Burgundy). It is a wine/food combo that you must try. The clear winner was the 2006 Vincent Girardin Chassagne-Montrachet "Abbaye de Morgeot". Lemon nose with a crisp vanilla and citrus taste with a hint of toast that ends with a perfect amount of acid to clean up the chicken fat. Scrumptious. My wife and I had lunch two weeks ago with Randy and his lovely wife Evelyne at the Quackenbush cafe in Los Alamos (on California's Central Coast).
