WineRelease.com's March 15, 2012 Monthly Newsletter.
Greetings from WineRelease.com, now 1,845 winery listings strong.
Well, its finally winter here in Northern California. Were in the middle of a week of heavy rain, which is sorely needed by those in the winter sports industries. Its a great time to dig deep into your cellars and pull out those special bottles to share with friends and family, while its too cold and dark to venture outdoors.
A few weeks ago, my wife and I did just that - We had a group of friends over for a dinner of arroz negro (a paella-style rice based dish, flavored and colored with squid ink, filled with prawns, scallops, mussels, clams, squid, etc) and cellared wines. With our move to Spain a few years back, I had a friend holding onto a good bit of my wine collection. The opportunity arose to bring about 30 of those cases into our new house, and in doing so, I discovered some old favorites, which seemed like the perfect occasion to bring about a dozen or so of my wine industry friends over for dinner and some good wine conversation.
To be honest, though, I am not sure which is better - Revisiting an old, trusty favorite or the anticipation that goes along with greeting an untasted, yet highly anticipated new wine. I am pleased to let you know that following our recent sponsorship drive, we have begun to receive some exciting wines that Im looking forward to sharing with you.
The first of these is the 2009 Fulcrum Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir, which arrived a few days in advance of a dinner party hosted by some close friends. What better way to taste a new wine? I have to say, the wine was a definite crowd pleaser; a beautiful combination of blackberry and cherry, with a hint of spice and enough of a mineral finish to bring it all home. It went really well with the chicken dish prepared by our hosts and like I said, was very much appreciated and enjoyed by all.
Whether your winter is just kicking off, like ours in Northern California, or you are seeing spring on the near horizon, I hope that you are able to take some time out of your busy schedules, dig out one of the old cellared wines, and enjoy a glass with friends and family.
