This month we had 83 winery updates and 72 wineries releasing wine.

Two weeks ago I flew back to the US and I'm in San Francisco as I write this, scrambling to catch up. Leaving for St. Helena tomorrow.

Morlet and Smith-Madrone wine bottles

Before I left Paris, I attended a soft opening of a friend's new restaurant Vandemiaere in the 7th arrondissement in Paris. I brought two wines made by French winemaker Luc Morlet (Morlet Wines); his 2020 Ma Princesse Sonoma County Russian River Valley Chardonnay and his 2019 Coteaux Nobles Sonoma Coast Fort-Ross Seaview Pinot Noir, along with a 2019 Smith-Madrone Cabernet Sauvignon. My other tablemates work at Sapiens, my favorite wine shop and bar in Paris, so it was fun to share my US wines. Everyone enjoyed the wines. I still have six bottles of Napa/Sonoma wines that I plan to taste with the Sapiens staff in October when I return to visit. It should be a fun time.

The restaurant's soft opening was a triumph. Their pork dish and lamb rack were outstanding. The pork sauce, reminiscent of crème anglaise, complemented the pork and Pinot Noir beautifully. The herb-crusted lamb was impeccably seasoned and cooked to perfection, with my knife gliding effortlessly through the tender meat.
